Tooth extraction is one of the most common oral surgeries. There are many reasons you may need a tooth removed. If your mouth is overcrowded or one of your teeth becomes infected, you may be in need of an extraction. In this case, you will be given a shot of novocaine and your tooth will be loosened with a tool called an elevator. We will then use forceps to remove the tooth.
While under the influence of novocaine or other pain relievers, you will experience minimal discomfort. After the novocaine wears off, you may feel some pain in the mouth. This can be treated with over the counter pain medications. Note: some extractions, such as wisdom teeth, would not be considered a minor procedure and need to be extracted by a specialist.
Following your extraction, it is important to stick to soft foods that won’t strain the teeth. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest.
During your extraction, we will do our best to keep you happy and comfortable while we provide the highest quality of dental care throughout the process. If you are concerned about any of your teeth and think you may need an extraction, contact our office today.
